This lesson challenges students to research the feminist movement from the 1960s while considering their own futures. Not only will students analyze literature but they will also become active participants through letter writing. While this lesson is adapted for ELA classrooms it is easily transferrable to a SS classroom with minimal alterations.

"Muslim Feminism" is a neat lesson that explores the stereotypes, experiences, and struggles for Muslim women in society. However, there are many other lessons found on this site that are very useful for Humanities classrooms: Gender-based violence, Homophobia in hip-hop, Manhood and gender identity, etc. This website will take you a long time to look through because there are so many rich resources that cover environmentalism, democracy, masculinity, feminism and the media.

There are five lessons within this unit that are entitled: Points of View, Manhood and Gender Identity, Gender Violence, Homophobia and Gay Rappers in Hip-Hop and Media Literacy. ITVS is a great site however it is tailored to American classrooms. It only takes small alterations to fit it to a Canadian classroom.

Media is the focus of these lessons-- Youtube will be necessary. The lessons begin with basics of masculinity and femininity and then dig into media studies of music videos and cartoons. As students mature through the first few lessons, they will then have the knowledge to tackle the end lessons that deal with more serious issues like sexism, rape, sexual objectification and sex trade workers.

Students will have the opportunity to see love presented through the narratives of three men. This lesson revolves around three men in a sauna and how in Finland it has become a "safe space." Discussion can be lent to safe spaces, separate areas for men and women, vulnerability, etc.
